SIGN THE PETITION: Protect St Georges Basin from Inappropriate Overdevelopment

Like many of you, I don’t support the proposal to build four 40metre, 8 storey apartment blocks in St Georges Basin.

The proposal that was presented to the community by the developer is dramatically different to what is available online and is not in keeping with the general area.

This is a major shift from the four-storey limit that has guided the planning process so far. Doubling the height is not a small adjustment. It’s a completely different development.

The current planning pathway, including the state significant declaration, has been based on a four-storey proposal. Moving to eight storeys is not a minor change and it should not be approved as a variation or extension of what has already been assessed.

An eight-storey building would be out of scale with the existing streetscape and village character of St Georges Basin. It would bring a level of density and visual impact that simply doesn’t fit this area.

There are also serious concerns about transparency. Official information available to the public still reflects a four-storey development. At the same time, the developer has been promoting an eight-storey version within the community. That mismatch is misleading and undermines trust.

Our community understands the need for more housing, and this project at the proposed four storey height would be appropriate to be considered and assessed on it's merits. Growth is expected. But it needs to be appropriate, well-planned, and consistent with the character of the area. An eight-storey development does not meet that standard.

Please sign this petition to demonstrate your opposition to a development of this scale.
