SIGN THE PETITION: LAKE CONJOLA DREDGING

Lake Conjola and nearby villages face a constant flood threat. Every time it rains, residents brace for damage, fearing for their homes and safety.

THE FACTS:

In 1999, (26 years ago), Shoalhaven City Council commissioned Patterson Britton to undertake a very comprehensive study of entrance processes at Lake Conjola and a major re-set of the ebb channel was recommended and the lake was dredged.

For the next twelve years, Lake Conjola did not have one single flood due to inundation.  Residents did experience one ocean surge during this time due to high seas – but the water was only ankle deep and did not enter homes.

The lake closed in 2011 and instead of maintaining a managed entrance by channel dredging, Shoalhaven City Council reverted to old management practices. Since this time, the village of Lake Conjola has flooded 12 times is as many years.  One flood every year.

WHAT NOW:

As your local State MP, I’ve spent the past 18 months studying the lake and working with Council, Ministers, and the community to find real solutions. One critical step in mitigating flooding is to dredge the ebb channel to reset the lake properly - giving us a stronger, more reliable way to prevent low level flooding, especially in the lowest-lying areas.

Now we need the NSW Government to act.
